One of the reasons we decided to start TruWin clothing was after unearthing the terrible global statistics of the clothing industry. <\/p>

Let\u2019s look at some of those stats: <\/p>

  1. 60% of clothes are made from plastic<\/p><\/li>

  2. 99% of clothes go to landfill<\/p><\/li>

  3. 40 tons of clothes are burned or buried EVERY SECOND<\/p><\/li><\/ol>

    <\/p>

    Read that last one again. 40 tons of clothes are incinerated or buried in land fill every single second, of every single day, of every year.<\/strong> The US alone create 11.3 million tons of textile waste, but this isn\u2019t about beating up the USA. The UK send 350,000 tons of clothing to landfill every year too. That\u2019s 22 tons a second right there. <\/p>

    But it gets worse. A lot worse. New clothes are manufactured using synthetic materials, in factories powered by fossil fuels. Still think that\u2019s bad, it get\u2019s worse still! <\/p>

    The current clothing market is built on pre-made stock which is shipped to stores or warehouses (again using fossil fuels) and on average 40% of it is wasted. So it\u2019s a perpetual cycle of unsustainable manufacturing, selling, using, throwing away and burying or burning. <\/p>
